Guard accidentally discharges gun in mall, five injured

KUALA LUMPUR: Five people were injured in the Cheras Leisure Mall here Tuesday, when a security guard accidentally discharged his pump gun.

Three of the injured were staff of a cake outlet in the mall, while the others, one of them a foreigner, were passers-by.

All the injured were reported to be in stable condition after being taken to the Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

In the 12.55pm incident, the 50-year-old guard was sitting on a stage in front of a goldsmith's shop, chatting with a colleague as he waited to switch shifts, when he accidentally discharged the weapon.

It is learnt that the guard, who has been detained by the police, has 15 years of experience and was transferred to the outlet just two days ago
