1)My 2nd stay at this budget hotel in the center of downtown Kuala Lumpur as I was looking for a budget hotel that gave me access to the golden triangle of Kuala Lumpur shopping.
Very basic room, small and catered for people who just need a place really to sleep and nothing more. Shower and toilet facilities in the room are adequate, but small, clean rooms but noise levels are going to be noisier as the windows are not sound proof and if you happen to be facing the main street during the work week, its something you will have to expect.
Internet is available at a reasonable price for a 24 hour credit period, aircond, towels are also an add on option from the low room rates.
Easy access and savings if you can cross the road and take the monorail to bukit bintang shopping center and a low RM2 per monorail ticket, compared to RM5-RM8 which taxi's expect for a 10 minute ride.
A deli and coffee shop in house make things convenient as well as a 24 hour 7-11 store.
Its everything you need.
MAJOR INCONVENIENCE?
Getting the bus service provided by Air Asia to the LCT Air Asia terminal. The prices are steep especially if you are alone. The cheapest alternative is to take the monorail from the hotel to Jln Sambaganthan (end of the monorail line), cross the road to KL Sentral and take the bus to LCT. This however takes a good 25 minutes to get to KL Sentral but is not available for those flying out early as the monorail service starts at 5 or 6am only.
The airport transfers can surely have been delt with a lot better because its silly to pay over the odds for 1 person when they should be providing shuttle bus services maybe at every 2 or 3 hours per day to the airport.

2)Decent level of cleanliness and comfort, reasonable price, but no security

the cleaning people stole my shopping bag from inside the room! I reported the case to the police but I never saw my bag again. Don’t go to Tune hotel if you have anything valuable.
3)As soon as I saw the room I wanted to check out again. The bare bones was not what put me off - I was more concerned on the smell of the room (one smelt stale and the other smelt of pee), the dirty toilet - hair was left in the bathroom and the floor was not thoroughly cleaned, and the DAMP beds. Apparently the air conditioners don't allow for ventilation in the room and adds more moisture to the air so the bedding is constantly damp. Eurgh. Apparently this is a constant problem throughout the hotel.
One good note about this hotel is the service. One of the staff deserves a very good commendation - Jackie. When I told her the problems she moved me to another room on a different floor which provided for a more comfortable and dry sleep. The toilet did smell of sewage though - this is not one hotel to spend copious amounts of time in.
Jackie also helped to refund the remaining nights I had in the hotel - they don't refund your money, but give you credit in terms of nights in the hotel.
Overall a budget hotel that takes your money and doesn't promise much. I'd much rather pay a bit more to stay in Number Eight Hostel in Bukit Bintang.
4)We stayed at Tune Hotel during the first week of its opening in April 2007,
Tune Hotel is a no-frills hotel. It does not come with room service.
The rooms come in either single bed or a queen-sized bed. There are no twin beds option. You cannot have an extra bed either. There is no space to put any. The mattress is comfortable.
There is a small rack attached to the wall above the bed where one can put small items. However, you will have to put your luggage bags on the floor as there are no tables or cabinets.
There are pegs on the wall where you can hang your clothes. There is also a mirror in the room. There is no telephone or television in the room.
The room is very small and has a claustrophobic feel. I felt as if I was in prison. At least my room had a window. My friend's room had none.
However, we didn't really mind as we weren't spending much time in the hotel room. We were only using it for sleeping as we were out most of the time.
Part of the room walls are painted bright red. Another wall in the room is painted gray with a flower motif, which I didn't fancy. My friend commented that the bright, fiery colour is not conducive for sleeping.
The bathroom has a strong shower. There are no bathtubs.
The floor is solid concrete. No carpeting.
The hotel has many advertisements on their walls. This is one of their ways to increase revenue and to keep hotel rates low.
There was a smell of wet paint when we stayed as the hotel was still undergoing renovations. The coffee house had not started operations at that time, so I am not able to comment on that aspect.
The staff were always very friendly and helpful. I was very pleased with their service.
The location of the hotel is good. It is only 5 minutes walk to Sogo and Pertama complex departmental stores. The light rail transport (LRT) station is not too far away. Taxis are easily available. There is an affordable van service called Sky Van from KL Sentral to the hotel.
We booked online and only paid about 40+ Ringgit including tax for each double room with 5 hours of air-conditioning. You can opt for air-conditioning, which cost extra. Each room is equipped with a ceiling fan.Toiletries, towel and breakfast are available for an small fee.
Tune Hotel is very affordable and well worth the money. Though it does not offer any frills, its affordable price justifies it all. I will stay here again if I am on a tight budget. I read that the group will open new branches in other locations throughout Malaysia and I certainly welcome this move.
