Rumor as it, there might be a change/switch of power on the 9th of october when the parliament will be opened after raya. But to be honest, nothing is gonna change much! As for the foreigners nothing too worry actually! Malaysian Gov always keep good relationships with their fellow inotranets!

The transition had been scheduled for 2010 but will be brought forward to March 2009. Mr Abdullah's standing in the United Malays' National Organisation (UMNO) which has led Malaysia's government for 51 years, was undermined when he led the party to its worst ever election results earlier this year.

Malaysian PM says will meet king on handover

28.03.09

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) — Malaysia's outgoing premier Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said Saturday he will meet the king on April 2 to set a date for the transition of power to his deputy Najib Razak.

Najib was appointed leader of the ruling party UMNO on Thursday in a handover that had been planned for months. But Abdullah's refusal to set a date to stand down had raised speculation he may be reluctant to quit.

"I will have an audience with the king on April 2 to inform His Majesty that I will relinquish my responsibility as the prime minister," Abdullah told United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) members at the end of their annual meeting.

"If His Majesty grants the consent, a date will be fixed for the official (swearing-in) ceremony," he said.

Malaysia leader poised to resign

(CNN) -- Malaysia's prime minister wants to step down and has scheduled a meeting with the supreme ruler of the country to hand in his letter of resignation, Malaysia's national news agency reported Saturday.

Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi plans the meeting for Thursday, the Bernama news agency reported.

Abdullah plans to hand over the reigns to Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak after he receives the consent of the supreme leader, the agency reported. An official date for the change in leadership will be set after the consent has been given.
Abdullah is part of Malaysia's ruling party, the National Front coalition, and he has held the position since 2003.

His decision to step down comes about one year after a loose coalition of opposition parties won 82 of 222 parliamentary seats in elections. It was only the second time in the history of the country -- which gained independence from Britain in 1957 -- that the ruling party failed to gain the two-thirds majority needed to amend Malaysia's constitution.

Former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad ruled the Southeast Asian country -- which is a constitutional monarchy -- from 1981 until 2003.
