Seventy-five new cases of influenza A(H1N1) have been detected as of this morning, revealed Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai in Putrajaya today.
Of the 75 cases, 41 were imported while 34 were local cases. The total number of cases in the country so far stands at 434 - 333 imported and 101 local cases.
Of this, 343 patients have been treated and discharged from various hospitals whereas 91 others are still undergoing treatment.
The minister also said that out of the 75 new cases, 64 were Malaysians while the remaining 11 were foreigners (four Indonesians, three Filipinos, one each from Libya, Oman, Singapore and Australia).
The 75 cases detected as of this morning is a huge jump from the 33 recorded yesterday.
Out of the 34 local cases, 12 were participants of the Asia Pacific Pharmaceutical Conference (APPC) held in Penang from June 27-30.
Four students from Sekolah Menengah Tsun Jin in Cheras, who were tested positive for the virus, have been quarantined although the school has not been closed.
"The cases are increasing exponentially but we are ready," Liow told a press conference.
No travel restrictions as yetHe said the ministry was able to trace the source of the flu, even if it was from a second generation of local transmission - meaning that it was spread by a local victim who got it from someone who flew into the country with the flu to another local victim.

"We will change from containment phase to mitigation face when there is sustained local transmission... (the mitigation phase) is when we cannot trace the source and we cannot track the contact," he explained.
"At the moment we can still contain the situation... WHO (World Health Organisation) also gave us some advise on this mitigation stage, so we will employ all means to handle and make sure that this pandemic is controlled," he stressed, adding that the hospital stockpile is also ready for any stage.
Be aware of the dangerThe minister also expressed appreciation to the those who were infected for informing the officials that they had contracted the virus.
"I would like to thank the public for their honesty and cooperation in coming forward in disclosing their symptoms and other vital information... the responsibility of the public is very crucial and important to ensure that we can handle the outbreak.

Although the situation is under control, Liow reminded the public to be aware of the "severity of the illness" as the virus is airborne and can be easily contracted.
"Everybody must take ownership of this pandemic, we must know how to take precaution... if everyone is on high alert we can avoid local transmissions," he said.
According to the WHO report, to date there are 91,457 confirmed case globally with 387 deaths from 126 countries.
